Protect Your Home in Freezing Temperatures
With the impending freeze that is about to hit the south, what should you do to prepare?
First off, make sure you know where your water shut off is in case a pipe was to bust. In talking with our plumber, he said people could have saved themselves thousands just knowing how to shut the water off quickly.
There are many things after that which can help, but they won’t guarantee anything. It’s just never a bad idea to do them all.
Cover your water meter with a mat or bale of straw. The cold air running over that can cause your main line to freeze.
Open your cabinets under your sink if they’re on an exterior wall.
Cover your outdoor spigots with an insulated cover. Your local hardware store should have those.
Turn on your faucet to a slow drip at night while you won’t be using the water much.
Unhook your outdoor hoses.
This is definitely not everything you could do, but these are some of the most important things in my opinion! Everyone stay warm and make sure to have a plan in place should you lose power during these cold temps!
